Do you often feel embarrass when you see the wrinkles on your eye lids when you sit in front of the mirror before going for a party? What will happen when the men in the party will guess your age? Dr. Nadia Kazim has a solution.
Dr. Nadia Kazim, an eyelid and facial cosmetic surgeon at the Aesthetic & Cosmetic Laser Center at Florida Eye Health, recently became one of the first doctors in the area to inject Dysport, an injectable treatment for wrinkles.
Dysport is an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in late April 2009.
Dysport has similar properties as the popular Botox Cosmetic, which has been used at Florida Eye Health since 2002. Dysport is approved for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines (vertical lines between the eyebrows) in adults younger than 65 years of age.
The active substance in Dysport is a botulinum neurotoxin type A complex, which acts at the level of the neuromuscular junction in the targeted muscle. Dysport is a neuromuscular blocking toxin that acts to block acetylcholine release at motor nerve ends and reduces muscular spasm.
"As our skin becomes less elastic over time, repeated frowning creates visible lines and wrinkles," said Dr. Kazim. "Dysport and Botox Cosmetic are natural and purified proteins that relax the muscles by blocking nerve impulses. Once the muscles are at rest, the skin becomes smoother, creating a more natural and relaxed appearance."
As an eyelid and facial cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Kazim offers numerous other surgical and non-surgical procedures to help patients look as young as they feel. These include eyelid surgery, brow lifts, and facial fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm. Non-surgical services include microdermabrasion, facials, chemical peels, the Obagi Skin Care System, Latisse eyelash enhancement and laser hair removal.
Although only recently approved for use in the United States, Dysport has been used in patient care in the United Kingdom since 1991, and has marketing authorizations in 27 countries for aesthetic use.
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, more than 10 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the U.S. in 2008, 83 percent of which represented non-surgical procedures. Injections of botulinum toxin type A have been the No. 1 non-surgical cosmetic procedure for the past five years, with over 2.4 million total procedures in 2008 alone.
So stop worrying about your age, and get Dysport in your eyelids to make your eyes looke younger.
