Operation Miracle (Operación Milagro) is a joint health programme between Cuba and Venezuela, which was set up in 2005.
Every month this operation miracle select some low income patients to have free eye surgery. And among them Nicaraguans, a country in central America benefits the most, says report.
Report shows that Cuban specialists working in the Operation Miracle eye treatment program have surpassed 25,000 operations till now. Among them there are 5,458 cases of cataract and 18,624 for pterygium. They have also treated other eye illnesses including glaucoma. Moreover Cuban medical brigade working in the different regions of Nicaragua have attended to more than 1.1 million doctor’s visits. Dr. Luis Carlos Avila, who heads the brigade, says that the effort includes 2,477 operations of different complexity and 1,934 births.
