Sankara Eye Care Hospital, Bangalore & Shimoga, in association with Sightsavers International, UK launched a comprehensive eye care program for children in Karnataka named “Nanna Kannu” under its mission to eradicate preventive blindness.
The project is launched with a mission to provide preventive and curative eye care to children in the proposed project area includes children in the age group of 0 to 18 years from Govt recognized schools and shelters.
The hospital confirmed that over the next 3 years around 3, 00,000 children will be covered under the “Nanna Kannu” project.
The programme was inaugurated at the hospital premises on 1st June by Shri. Aravind Limbavalli & Shri. Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Minister of Higher Education & Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Govt. of Karnataka,
The project focus is on children mainly from the economically weaker sections of the community, from the districts of Bangalore, Bangalore (Rural), Chamarajanagar,Ramanagara, Mysore, Chikkaballapur, Tumkur, Kolar and Mandya. An average of 100,000 children will be screened annually.
