US gets first prosthetic iris replacement in a child
In a breakthrough success, the eye researchers in Cincinnati Eye Institute implanted a custom-made prosthetic iris into the eye of a 7 year old boy. Thus the child, Nathaniel Brantley is the first child in the US to get the prosthetic. The boy was born without irises, the colored part of the eye that controls the amount of light entering the eye.

At a recent plastic surgery conference doctors discussed on various problems related to the under-eye indentations. They reported an an increased incidence of short-term under-eye mounds, discoloration and persistent hard nodules. There are also a handful of reports by doctors in Japan, Brazil, South Korea and Austria of blindness caused by cosmetic injections of silicone oil, fat and other materials under the eyes.
