Iranian researchers have found an answer to the chronic pain following Lasik surgery. The pain was always believed to have caused operation-related eye dryness.
According to the study published in the Journal of Refractive Surgery, using tricyclic antidepressants have shown promising results in treating these pains in peripheral nerves.
LASIK, Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a procedure for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism with an excimer laser.
Alireza Ghafarie, an ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology said,
"Chronic pain, a rare complication of LASIK, was long believed to be the cause of operation-related eye dryness."
