Older People, Women Likely To Come Under Corticocapsular Adhesions
Corticocapsular adhesions can be a result of a number of factors like Cortical cataracts, older age and female gender, explains a study conducted by Indian researchers at the Iladevi Cataract and IOL Research Center in Ahmedabad. The study was also published in the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology.
The team of the researchers led by Dr.Abhay R. Vasavada studied 580 patients who received standardized phacoemulsification and were evaluated for probable risks associated with the development of corticocapsular adhesions. Of the total 580 patients, 318 patients were men, of which 93 (29.2%) had CCA; and of 262 female patients, 96 (36.6%) had CCA, confirms sources. The study has shown another important factor, age. It was found during the study, the patients aged between 40 and 49 years, 22% had CCA and among patients aged between 70 and 79 years, 70% had CCA. As the end of the result, it was revealed that CCA problem mainly affect women and aged people. The investigators also found that the presence of anterior cortical cataract increased the odds of developing CCA.
