Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery- An Affordable Alternative to Instrumental Phaco
The doctors believe that the new surgery named Manual small-incision cataract surgery offers a better and effective results for the cataract patients. Not only this, a minimal time is required to complete the full surgery.
According to R.D.Ravindran, MS, DO of Aravind Eye Hospital, " With this technique they see eight to ten patients suffering from cataract per hour. This makes the number of 45 to 60 patients in Six hours.
Moreover he said that this procedure involves minimal cost. Both Manual Small-Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS) and Standard Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE) are low cost procedures, they are excellent choices for the patients who cannot afford Phacoemulsification. Sometimes this is also a better choice for the patients who can afford the phaco surgery. At Aravind Eye Hospital in 2008, 53,475 patients paid for the treatment and 127,587 had their surgery for free.
Thus concluding that Manual small-incision cataract procedure is the most affordable, less time consuming, high volume surgery with good results. It is an better alternative to instrumental phaco.
