Jennifer Choo Finds Overnight Contact Lenses Safe
The researchers at the Vision Cooperative Care Center have something to say what the contact lens users want to hear. The researchers there found that the new age overnight contact lenses are safe and fit for use. The study finds that these contact lenses causes no infection.
Jeniffer Choo, undertaking her PhD study at the Vision CRC has released her study on the subject on May 20 in Sydney. The study suggests that the new age Orthokeratology(OK) lenses are designed to reshape the surface of the cornea overnight when the person sleeps.
The research found that dramatic alterations in the thickness of the outermost layer of the cornea – the epithelium – occurred. Normally the epithelium is rather uniform in thickness across the cornea. However, with these lenses, there is epithelial thinning in the center and thickening in the mid-peripheral region.
The research helped understand of how cornea reacts to the contact lens.
