The Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh ( NNJS) and the Embassy of India in Nepal have signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) in connection with conducting Nepal-India Friendship Eye Camp in various districts of Nepal. As per the MoU signed on Tuesday, the Indian Embassy is to provide 11.3 million Nepali rupees (161,428 US dollars) to carry out free implantation of Intra-ocular Lenses on 10,000 cataract patients and conduct free operation on 2,000 trachoma patients living in the rural and far-flung areas of Nepal. According to the NNJS, the program is scheduled to be carried out from July 2006 to March 2007. Nach Angaben der NNJS, das Programm soll durchgeführt werden, von Juli 2006 bis März 2007.

Program Director of the NNJS Bimal Poudel stated that a large number of patients suffering from cataract fail to receive timely treatment which lead to blindness due to lack of proper infrastructures and non-accessibility in the country.
