Free Eye Surgery at Nebbi Hospital- Uganda
Hundreds of patients with eye defects in Nebbi district and the neighbouring DR Congo on Wednesday received free eye surgery at Nebbi Hospital.
The Ophthalmic Clinical Officer, Mr Jalmoro Okurucibo, said over 105 patients received treatment. Okurucibo said the majority of the patients had their eyes affected by old age and trachoma. Trachoma is an infection of the eyes that may result in blindness after repeated re-infections.
"Most of our people don't know that we provide free eye surgery and treatment," he said. The Ministry of Health funds the programme that's being supported by an NGO, Lions Aid Norway.
