Free Cataract Surgery For Working Poor

Surgery to fix the lens can cost $5,000 per eye, a hefty price especially for those without insurance. So next month for the first time ever, Dr. Ingraham and some of his staff from Geisinger will take part in Mission Cataract. They will perform free surgery on those who meet the financial requirements.

So patients who can't afford to take care of their cataracts, a condition where the eye's lens becomes cloudy and needs to be replaced, should contact Geisinger's Opthamology Department, as early as possible.

For information on if you qualify call Geisinger's Carelink line at (800)275-6401. If you qualify they'll set you up with a screening later this month.
