Dakota Baby Fights Rare Eye Disease ( Peter’s Anomaly )
The baby in the picture is the child Crew Engel, who has undergone a second cornea transplant in just eight month he has been alive. And this child was suffering from the disease from 8 th week after his birth. He is suffering from Peter`s Anomaly, a rare eye disease.
Peter`s Anomaly causes his eye to be hazy. That on top of a case of Glaucoma, often associated with Peter`s Anomaly and it caused a lot of problems for the child. His eye begins swelling to the point that he can`t close his eyelid. The swelling also causes his eye to reject the cornea transplants. "You unfortunately saw the eye because it was bulging out and unable to close", Crew's grandmother recalls.
The Engels family was lucky enough to have support from insurance company that has been pretty good about covering medical expenses, but travel to and from Minneapolis on a weekly basis has been hard on them. A benefit account has been set up at Dakota Community Bank to support the family, and in several weeks a community fund raiser will be held as well.

Such poor boy.
My boy was born on May 14, 2008. He was found to have bilateral corneal opacities with microphthalmia. We were shocked about this!
Don’t know what to to next!!! We prepared so well before we wanna our first baby.

I just met a young man who has this same condition;Peter’s Anomaly. He has had several tough years and remenbers his early surgeries. Fortunately methods and the wonders of modern medicine has been updated since this gentleman has gone through these procedures. “Dakota Baby” will get through this and so will the family. Our prayers are with you. by the way my new friend with this rare eye anomaly is now studying to be a priest.
