For the first time in world's history a city from India has taken a bold step to eradicate cataract completely.
This step involves the undertaking of new project named 'Cataract free Nagpur ' by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Under this project to remove cataract from nation, the government will cure millions of cataract patients for free.
Mr Atul Patne, additional municipal commissioner of Nagpur, claims that NMC, Nagpur Municipal Corporation by March 31, 2009, will perform over 10,000 free cataract surgeries. He moreover says that these operations will be done at nominal costs if done in private hospitals and if done at GMC or IGGMC then it will be done for free of cost. The nominal price which Mr Patne suggests is Rs 750.
In order to provide more information to the readers, the NMC has also designed and developed a new website 'www.cityhealthline.org'.
