Canada Joins 60 KHz IntraLase Femtosecond Lasik Club
The new 4th generation IntraLase(TM) 60 kHz laser which decreases the average flap creation from 30 seconds to approximately 15-20 seconds per eye and with improvements in speed, precision and greater safety, the IntraLase system allows the surgeon to deliver faster visual recovery, better visual results, and fewer re-treatments, will be installed in Canada for the first time by Bochner Eye Institute, a leading cataract and refractive surgery clinic.
"The surgeons of the Bochner Eye Institute have always been at the forefront of advanced laser technology in North America," said Mr. Greg Anderson, Vice President IntraLase - US Sales. "From the first clinical textbook on laser vision correction to developing proven surgical techniques the surgeons have proven to be an integral component to the continued
development of laser vision care."
Since adopting IntraLase technology in January 2006, preliminary results with the IntraLase have been extremely promising. "I was immediately impressed with the improved precision of the IntraLase laser," states Dr. Raymond Stein, Medical Director of Bochner Eye Institute and Past President of the Canadian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
"The enhanced visual recovery and added safety have made my patients much more comfortable with IntraLase technology than with the traditional microkeratome," adds Dr. R. Stein.
"Patient safety is my number one concern," comments Dr. Albert Cheskes, Co-Medical Director at The Bochner Eye Institute and Past Chairman of the Eye Safety Committee of Canada. With its programmable parameters, the laser avoids potential complications such as buttonholes and free flaps during the cutting procedure. "IntraLase's enhanced safety features allow us to provide the best service possible. My patients easily understand the value of the procedure and prefer IntraLase technology over that of the metal blade," said Dr. Albert Cheskes.
"As I see it," comments Dr. Harold Stein, founder and Medical Director of Bochner Eye Institute and Past President of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society, "IntraLase's new improved safety capabilities of bladeless surgery address the concerns of patient satisfaction and post-operative visual acuity." As speed increases and the number of re-treatments decrease, Dr. Harold Stein's laser patients can continue to expect the highest the level of patient care and outcomes.
The newest upgrade further enhances the patient's expectation of better results. And with the rapid adoption of IntraLase femtosecond technology, it is evident that the IntraLase procedure is emerging as the standard of care in Canada for flap creation.
