Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) Free Screening For Children : By Lions
The Kentucky Lions will screen children throughout the state for amblyopia (lazy eye). There are about 300,000 children between the ages of 1 and 5 in Kentucky. The earlier a visual problem is detected, the more likely treatment will be successful.
Amblyopia is a condition that affects about three out of every 100 people.
The best time to correct amblyopia is during early childhood, which is why children ages 1 through 5 will be screened.
Kentucky Lions will contact pre-schools and day-cares. Parents must sign and return a consent form.
The Lions arrive in teams of three to conduct a free screening, during which a photo is taken with a special camera and sent to the screening lab, where it is read by trained technicians. Results are sent to the parents.
