20 elderly person receives the gift of sight through free cataract surgery campaign
Thursday, was believed to be a Cataract Awareness Day, and on this special day Lenasia Community Health Center, a specialist hospital offers twenty elderly people a gift of sight.
Cataracts is a painless clouding of the lens of the eye. It develops over a long period of time, gradually worsening the eyesight which eventually leads to blindness. Report says that there are many peoples who are suffering from this disease.
And so when in a health campaign, the center was offering free eye check-ups, the residents didn't wanted to miss the chance and thus they gather for free eye screenings. Out of 2000 residents, 20 cataract patients got the opportunity to get operated for free.
The surgery that is offered for cataract is a minor and safe procedure. It involves the removal of the original eye lens which is replaced with an artificial lens. Through this procedure, vision can be restored within 24 hours.
